Wireless General Info
Wireless seems to have invaded our lives in so many different ways; whether it be our home security systems or our automatic car door openers; our cell phones, pagers, TV remote controls, or our HAM Radios (admit it; they’re still out there) wireless is everywhere. But what is some general information about Wireless? Where did it come from? What does it mean? Who uses it and why? One of the most general definitions of wireless is the info about what wireless is. Well, it’s just that – electric or electronic operation which takes place without the use of hard wiring. Certain aspects of what wireless is could be achieved with wires; some could not. Typically, wireless is defined as some piece of telecommunications which uses some form of energy to transfer information without use of wires over both short and long distances. Wireless first came into prominence with a radio receiver marked its territory of wireless telegraphy; today’s the term is used to describe things like cellular telephones and wireless internet. When Rudolf Hertz first discovered that electromagnetic waves exist, this was one of the most important discoveries in wireless technology. His experiments proved that in fact these waves existed and could be transmitted and propelled through space and that they also could be received by another thing. Nokia Tesla was also a leader and innovator in his dissertations and experiments on wireless technology. Some contemporary examples that provide general examples of wireless technology at work are home security systems. Wireless sensors on more and more home and office security systems have taken prominence in recent days. Detection of an open window or door is a lot more reliable than the potential hard wiring consequences that could come from faulty wiring. Remember televisions that had remote controls plugged into the TV’s themselves? They had about a four foot cord and getting up to change the channel with the remote was just as cumbersome as getting up to change the channel manually. Cellular phones use radio waves that allow the operator to make phone calls from many places all over the world. So long as you’re within the coverage area of a cellular phone tower so as to be able to transmit and receive the signal, you’re considered wireless. Wireless technology will only become more evident in the future; as we continue to get more and more mobile in, around, and of the world.
