Wireless Internet Access
Wireless internet has swept the nation. With networks growing ever stronger and more omnipotent, there’s great reason to believe that this wireless thing will be around for a while; we’re all satiated from the hunger to connect, research, plan, and destroy (video games people! “Destroy” in World of Warcraft!) With wireless internet access available at more and more places and wireless internet connections seemingly springing up from the ground (er, or, shooting from the air?) wireless internet is doing exactly what it set out to; connect people wherever they want; and the ISP’s couldn’t be happier. Not to be so equivocal about it, but, really, a laptop is the only way to pick up a wireless internet connection. With access just about anywhere, public storefronts, government buildings, offices, studios, (your neighbors!), hotels, motels, resorts, and popping up as “free” more and more in luxury apartment rental situations, the laptop is totally conducive to this sort of game; if the connection’s not good in one spot, you can just move yourself a little to the left. Free wireless internet access is a strong part of this program. With buildings, schools, office buildings, and whole towns “going wireless” there’s strong reason to believe that, if you can get there you can get a signal! Broadband is the type of wireless, at its most elemental, that you’re looking for. The more “broad” the band, the more information you can fit across the line; vis a vis, you’re a lot more likely to be able to pick up that signal if you’re hopping on board a broadband train. You’re also a lot less likely to get booted off in some treasonous moment of mutiny. Going along with broadband, the broader the band and the more information is able to fit across the line, the more likely the speed is to be closer to what you’re looking for. If you want the fastest speed, you’ll probably also want the broadest band. Every day between 11AM and 1PM I’m typically able to locate my brother who’s serving in Iraq on his myspace page. His broadband access is great and we’re even able to chat if I’m on a strong enough signal. Wireless broadband has swept across America; from the foot hills to the mountain tops. Whether you’re living in Phoenix, Amherst, Des Moines, or Chicago, there is guaranteed to be some sort of wireless broadband signal that’s come your way. So if you’re on your free laptop and are trying to access a free wireless internet signal or if you’re zooming at high speeds on the fattest of the broadband signals, you complicit use of this signal no one can see is further evidence of the sweeping, total nature of the broadband movement.
