At&t Wireless
AT&T has a history that takes us back to 1885; currently AT&T is the largest provider of local, long distance telephone service, wireless (as Cingular Wireless) and DSL internet in the United States. While their history is long and storied, their present and future are looking just as bright as they’ve merged with some of the biggest companies, while still maintaining the iconic AT&T brand logo. AT&T wireless internet is a partnership with Yahoo! Inc and they provide a co-branded DSL service as well as dial up internet access. AT&T has raised one of the quandaries for ISP’s as well as for John Q. Public customer as in order to get the high speed internet service you also need to be a customer of their telephone service. In the wireless world we all live in and with more and more of us not having a home phone service provider, it’s raised a problem. You’d figure they would have made a way for DSL to be transmitted across a phone line without having to have the phone service. This fact is the one that keeps me holed up inside of a Starbucks for their WiFi connection and not in the relative peace and solitude of my house (actually, I think that loud girl next to me lives in my building; or if not, she’s got a twin) AT&T wireless broadband is a little bit older than the Yahoo partnership; AT&T used to provide broadband internet through cable under the moniker AT&T Broadband, though in 2002 they took up and sold that off to Comcast. The AT&T Yahoo name only came about after 1/1/06 – as from 2003 until that date the ISP was known as SBC Yahoo! If you’re interested in being an AT&T wireless internet customer, you won’t be alone; they are the largest provider in the US of wireless internet. But AT&T offers a lot more than just internet service. AT&T also has a whole wireless downloads section for ringtones. AT&T wireless phone service, which is the New Cingular Wireless, is also a market leader; they’ve embedded themselves into the market. AT&T wireless internet service and AT&T wireless phones also offer Bluetooth technology. If you’re looking for free AT&T wireless cell phones, they may be included with longer contract terms in your Cingular wireless plans. That’s the best way to rope someone into a long term contract for phone service; offer them the coolest phones as a reward!
