Midwest Wireless
Midwest wireless was one of the companies purchase by Alltel in 2005 and cleared of possible antitrust worries in 2006. With a headquarters in Minnesota, Midwest wireless was responsible for a wide swath of the Midwest serving southeast Minnesota, northern Iowa and western Wisconsin with almost four hundred thousand customers. Midwest was however bought up by Alltel at a very difficult time for telephone providers in particular as the big fish just kept getting bigger and the smaller fish just got eaten. At a time before, many people would have never even imagined these industries would exist, let along take up so much of our time, expense, and market share. We play on our PDA, take pictures with our camera phones, stream video and movies on our iPods; our phones are able to text, tell us the weather in a destination city, access wireless networks, figure our tax and tip, point to where we are exactly on a map of the world and whatever street we happen to be on; all that’s left is for cell phones to have Mace so women can feels safe anywhere and for us to be able to grind out some dinner from our tiny antenna top. Midwest wireless was never able to see that reality on their own. So with the inclusion of Alltel there are many advantages; job security, a stronger network support, and a possible future where it seems like no one really cares about their customer anymore. Fortunately for Midwest and their subscribers, that’s never been their credo and while Midwest wireless obviously has been taken to task for a number of its products and services, it’s never balked. If you’re interested in reading what professional have had to say about Midwest wireless, there are no doubt a plethora of reviews where you can read detailed product spec reviews and performance capabilities of its networks with the products. If you’d like a more honest opinion that maybe isn’t as forgiving but may offer some more practical insight to your questions or concerns, you should check out message boards and chat rooms that discuss what Midwest wireless does in practical applications. While if there was some big shut down of the network it would be covered, you might not always get that level of honesty nor the road weary opinions of an actual user in a professionals review where on the message boards people are violently honest. Midwest wireless enjoyed a fruitful bid for a bigger piece of the puzzle; looking like a dog has never suited Midwest though so they’ve bowed to the sidelines gracefully.
